Job Purpose

To advocate and drive the adoption of environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices throughout Malaysia’s digital economy ecosystem, especially amongst Malaysia Digital (MD) status companies. This will help to create a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Driving Industry Adoption of ESG

  • Enhance, scale, and manage MDEC’s ESG programmes and activities to accelerate the implementation of ESG practices across the digital economy.
  • Develop the narrative on MDEC’s strategy for driving the adoption of ESG across the digital economy.
  • Secure the commitment of companies to adopt/participate in MDEC’s ESG strategies/programmes.
  • Raise awareness, build capacity, and increase adoption in businesses in the digital economy in collaboration with Government, industry bodies and MDEC’s Corporate Affairs teams via outreach activities, training, social and mass media, etc.
  • Maintain and expand the resources available to the digital economy ecosystem, via MDEC’s ESG microsite and other communication channels.

Managing Sustainability Performance and Reporting across the Digital Economy

  • Manage and evaluate the impact of ESG practices by or on the industry – proactively identifying and addressing ESG risks/opportunities in collaboration with the industry and other key stakeholders.
  • Identify and facilitate efforts to improve the ESG/sustainability performance of the Digital Economy ecosystem.
  • Produce MDEC’s annual ESG Impact Report.
  • Amplify the digital economy ecosystem’s ESG commitments/achievements, via internal and external communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, environmental management, or any related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business and/or sustainable development / ESG, experience in integrating ESG into business would be an added advantage

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills – presentation slides, written and verbal communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Growth mindset – committed to continuous improvement, learning and development
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for business-integrated ESG and sustainability.
  • Proven project management and business development experience.
  • Takes responsibility for delivering timely and quality results with focus and drive.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, including the ability to multi-task.
  • Strength in planning and executing assignments independently, and as part of a wider, cross-functional team.
  • Seeks out opportunities to create effective change and suggests innovative ideas for improvement.
  • Understands how the role fits with and supports organisational objectives.
