Manager, Macrostrategy

Job Purpose

The Macrostrategy unit provides advisory services Internally across MDEC’s Divisions, and to Federal and State Ministries and Agencies in an effort to drive the Digital Economy for the nation.

In this role the Manager is expected to play a key role in driving the operational workstreams of the Macrostrategy unit - managing day to day execution of a project by taking ownership of its end results. This involves contributing to the analysis, design, and implementation of approaches, developing tailor-made solutions and working closely with stakeholders to ensure positive impact and sustainable results.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

1. Supporting Enterprise Advisory and Facilitation across MDEC divisions on their strategic plans which includes:

  • Pre-planning phase: Facilitate initial discussions with Divisions and other key stakeholders in determining themes for digital economy
  • Planning phase: Facilitate workshops and discussions to consolidate strategies and initiatives within MDEC and its stakeholders
  • Post planning: Facilitate review sessions of content and outcomes with key stakeholders, and, assisting to develop into practical strategies for implementation

2. Support the development of Strategies and Frameworks for Federal and State-level Ministries, and Agencies in the Digital Economy which includes:

  • Pre-planning phase: Facilitate initial discussion with Ministries, Agencies and EPU/MOF in determining themes for digital economy
  • Planning phase: Facilitate workshops and discussions to consolidate strategies and initiatives within MDEC and its stakeholders
  • Post planning: Facilitate review sessions of content and outcomes with key stakeholders, and, assisting to develop into practical strategies for implementation

Research & Analysis:

Ensure achievement of research objectives is aligned to the strategic objectives of both Enterprise and Federal and State stakeholders

  • Conduct research and analysis on the external environment to be used as reference for the yearly sessions and evaluate all opportunity-threats
  • Develop insights through data analysis
  • Obtain information on economic and industry trends, competitor and client behaviour
  • Provide insight, analysis and recommendation during planning initiatives by providing insights on current trending and future outlook
  • Systematically explore predictions and possibilities about technologies impacting the Digital Economy
  • Provide insights through trend analysis and advising the respective stakeholders
  • Provide recommendation to key stakeholders for next course of action based on insights developed
  • Provide relevant information to measure success of strategic initiatives

Stakeholder Reporting & Management:

Engage and develop reports for stakeholders across MDEC Divisions and at Federal and State-level on matters related to the strategic development of the Digital Economy for the Nation

  • Provide recommendations on practical implementable solutions that assist in driving the growth of the Digital Economy for the nation

Digital Economy Decision-making Platforms:

Represent MDEC at Key Decision-making Platforms

  • As a key representative of MDEC at key Digital Economy platforms, to facilitate and provide input on Digital Economy related issues
  • Provide advice and recommendations on agenda setting and oversee the follow through of key action items for the key decision making platforms

Learning and Growth:

Actively enhance personal development of skills and acquisition of knowledge

  • Participation in knowledge acquisition platforms in related areas
  • Implement personal development plan as identified in training needs analysis

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering or IT
  • Minimum 7 years working experience with 3 years’ experience in Strategy and Research functions

Competency Required

Soft Skills:

  • Previous consultancy or policy experience is preferred
  • Understanding of the Digital Economy, its concepts and themes, and growth levers
  • Proven track record of delivering impact on major sector transformation initiatives
  • Interest in international development and public and social sector
  • High-level communications to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative thinking and analysis
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Good business development and project management experience
  • Ability to think strategically and to work in a fast-paced and complex work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Technical Skills / Knowledge Specialization:

  • Understanding of MDEC’s roles, initiatives and processes
  • Strategic planning frameworks and models
  • General knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodology
  • General knowledge of statistical methodology
  • General knowledge of economics and ICT sector
  • Balanced Scorecard and Key Performance Indicators
