Job Purpose

Duties & Responsibilities

Business data analysis

  • Understand MDEC’s business data domain to propose solutions to address business challenges. The data analyst will develop analysis and reporting capabilities and identify data needs from the business unit
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Translate complex findings and results into a compelling narrative for the business
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and evaluate the key metrics for the business success and progress e.g. assist stakeholders in understanding the reason behind data changes
  • Investigate questions around business data issues and help understand the reasons, root causes and remediation actions
  • Communicate analyses and recommendations to the business stakeholders for their decision making

Formulate Functional Specification for Business Solutions

  • Assist in gathering business requirements for automated and integrated solutions which include the business case, functional needs, dependencies, constraints and risks
  • Collaborate with the data team members to conduct a full lifecycle analysis to include requirements, activities and design.
  • Develop functional specification and technical design document for management review and approval
  • Present data findings or translate the data into an understandable document by creating visualisations and dashboards to be presented to business stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the data team and client stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance
  • Develop and maintain data dictionary, business rules, business data glossary, data transformation workflows, reports definitions and other components of the data ecosystem
  • Creating appropriate documentation that allows client stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or related disciplines
  • Possesses 4-8 years of total work experience
  • Possesses at minimum 2 years of direct work experience in business intelligence or data analysis domain
  • Additional exposure to data operations/administration environment is an added advantage
  • Work experience or knowledge of ISO 270001, COBIT or ITIL standard is an added advantage
  • Exposure to the full cycle of software development (SDLC) is an added advantage
